Dior Homme Spring 2013

The Dior Homme Spring 2013 collection stripped fashion back to a time when good quality tailoring meant everything. Garments were minimalistic, sharp and strongly influenced by military attire in what seemed  50 shades of navy. It was as if the collection evoked memories of when men were drafted into the army, young boys tucked their games away and became serious and clean cut. With hair slicked to the side, they marched down the runway with a sense of purpose after being called to war. The traditional garments literally faded away as a more creative wave took hold mid way through the collection, featuring sheer materials that highlighted how graceful a smart suit can be. Trousers and tops took a back seat as Kris Van Assche showcased the versatility of the jacket. Sleeves were chopped off, silver buttons were added, while others were cinched in at the waist.  Much else remained the same apart from a handful of garments that saluted the navy in the form of striped jumpers in white and red, which integrated well with details such as the red laces and collars seen frequently in the rest of the collection. On reflection, some would say the muted colours, the simplistic pieces and the wearable outcome  is too safe, but in this case, the obvious has never seemed so innovative.
