With the hugely successful 2012 U.S. Open of Surfing in the books, Nike/Hurley/Converse is making waves on the retail side of things with their concept store in Irvine, CA dubbed “Salvation”. The brand’s name, born from the mind of Hurley founder Bob Hurley, caters to consumers who find solace or “salvation” at the end of a long day by engaging in action sports (snowboarding, skating, surfing, etc.) The now two year old experiment has garnered huge support from both the local Orange County community and global posh fashion/sneakerhead (NSB, Hypebeast, Sneaker News) circles alike for good reason.
The workshop themed space features a custom station where consumers can bring their personal designs/photos or work with the talented in-house graphic designers to create their own tees, Chuck Taylors, Stephen Janoskis and pretty much anything in the store that can soak up ink. Being a Nike concept establishment, their apparel and footwear boasts a top tier account that translates to the store receiving all the exclusive goodies ranging from the recent Hurley X Nike Free Run 3+ NRG and Nike SB x Levis collaborations to the John Varvatos Converse Collection to even the highly publicized USA Olympic gear. Last month, sneaker event juggernaut Dunkxchange set up shop to celebrate the release and raffle of the Nike SB Pushead II. The term “concept” comes in to play even more so as a quick glance of the space reveals non-Nike/Hurley/Converse product such as Dre Beats, Skullcandy, Hershel, Stance Socks, Penny Skateboard, and a huge selection of Kid Robot toys and street culture/fashion literature.
So save up, stop by, and make sure your bank account has enough funds. You’ll thank us later. And for those in the LA area, Salvation has some new real estate in Malibu. Cheers.
