New Music: Tyga – Hit Em Up (Feat. Tupac & Jadakiss)

135

With a chorus that pays homage to the C-Murder classic “Down 4 my Niggaz,” this new release from Tyga is a clever mix between the old and the new. In “Hit Em Up,” we find staple Tyga, spitting bars that ride the beat so well that they almost sound as part of the beat. The West Coast born rapper precisely combines his second verse with voice samples from West Coast legend Tupac to create an interesting tag-teaming effect. The song threads the three Tupac tracks: “Komradz,” “Thug 4 Life,” and “Thugs Get Lonely Too” in a way that collapses time, giving us classic Pac within a verse engineered completely anew.

As far as theme, the eerily stripped down DJ Mustard produced track is an ode to one that never gets old: real friends and a “F*ck You” to all the fakes. Jadakiss’ gritty New York City feature balances out the new age Tyga and the timeless Tupac.

“Hit Em Up” is set to appear on Tyga’s Hotel California LP due out April 9th.
