#TBT Video: From “No New Friends” To “Hypnotize

Monday June 3, 2013, DJ Khaled released the visuals for his newest made for radio cut “No New Friends,” a follow-up remix of Drake’s “Started From The Bottom” (they really just tweaked two layers of the beat and made Drake re-sing the “no new friends” part of SFTB to inject the reiteration with his R&B “I didn’t do it” voice popular among the 14 to 24 white female demographic) which is set to form part of Khaled’s forthcoming album Suffering From Success. The video for NNF had no need of big booties, champagne, gold chains, weird silk shirts, and helicopters/cars. In other words, it followed all the basic tenants of making a mainstream rap video in America.

What makes the visuals just a little more special, then, wasn’t its cue to hackneyed hip-hop themes (although you’ll see later on the gravity of this), but, rather, its deliberate flashback to the 90’s. It’s set in the year 1996, emphasizing the single’s been-down-with-my-day-ones theme, and as we get footage of OVO, MMG, and YMCB representatives getting weird in Miami, I can’t help but think back to that iconic 1997 video for Biggie's "Hypnotize." It already did what NNF did but even better, taking, well, big booties, champagne, gold chains, weird silk shirts, and helicopters/cars to Miami in 1997. The rap video is often a forgotten component in the hip-hop dialogue, so in honor of summer flirting its imminent arrival, and #TBT of course, let’s take it back to one of the greatest summer joints (and accompanying videos) our eyes and ears feasted on.

Mad Max Video Game Set to Come Out Next Year

It's official, the best post-apocalyptic movie ever has a video game coming. Mad Max, the popular 80's movie triology starring Mel Gibson, will finally be hitting game shelves. Unveiled at this past week's E3, the game will revolved around vehicular combat as well as hand-to-hand and weapons. From the limited amount of photos and information available, the game seems like it takes a page or two from Grand Theft Auto. 2014 will be a big year for the Mad Max franchise, with this game coming out, as well as a feature film titled "Mad Max: Fury Road," starring Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult. Mad Max has not received an official release date, but the game will be out at some point in 2014, available on Xbox 360 and One, Playstation 3 and 4 and Microsoft Windows.

McQ by Alexander McQueen just released their Spring/Summer 2013 lookbook last week. In this collection it features several of looks for different occasions - going from casual, to smart casual to formal. The color is really selective for this collection: camouflage, taupe, dirty orange, and blue/demin. Out of all the patterns, the camouflage seems to be the most stand out piece out of all the collection - coming out with the pants, shorts, bag and jacket. New Halo revealed

Microsoft unveiled a handful of new games today for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, as well as a newer, faster and quieter Xbox model. They even announced the pricing plan for the One ($499.99), but for me, the only "Holy Sh***) moment was a quick teaser toward the end. It's only a teaser, but we see a slightly different look to the Chief, wearing a poncho sort of covering, and it appears he's fighting some type of forerunner enemy again, similar to the Prometheans in the previous installment. Looks very cool in my opinion, very excited to see more information about this game as it develops.

Chelsea Football Club unveals 2013-2014 away kit

The Premier League powerhouse, Chelsea F.C. has switched things up a bit, going with a new look for their away kit for the upcoming season. In the past seasons, we've seen Chelsea sporting some unusual road uniforms, ranging from neon yellow, to black, black and yellow, black and orange, the list goes on and on. They've gone back to a more old school look, even channeling the England national team kit, with a conservative, no-fuss style. According to a press release from the official Chelsea site, this is only the sixth time they have used white as the primary color, kind of surprising for a team that has been around for 108 years. The kit is available for order on Chelsea's official site.

J. Cole Unveils “Born Sinner” Tracklist & Guest Features

Starting with the release of "Power Trip," J. Cole's camp has been steadily feeding us a healthy flow of teasers off the rapper's sophomore album Born Sinner, and today we've finally been offered up the full tracklist and guest features to anticipate from the forthcoming release. This sneak peak came directly from Jermaine himself, who tweeted a screen shot of his iTunes holding up what looks like the final tracks for Born Sinner on his Twitter account. Matt Smith ending tenure as the Doctor

The famous British Sci-Fi show will be introducing the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor. Matt Smith, the current Doctor, recently announced he would be leaving the show after the upcoming Christmas special. After Doctor Who returned to television in 2005, the show has seen Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and now Matt Smith play the role since 2010. The show will celebrating with a 50th Anniversary special this November, followed by the annual Christmas special in December. Showrunner Steve Moffatt says they still don't have an actor set to take over, but many fans have already taken to who they would like to see pilot the TARDIS is the newest edition. My pick? Richard Madden, best known for Robb Stark in Game of Thrones. He has a rather unfortunate demise in this past Sunday's episode, so personally, I would love to see him take on the role. Probably not very likely at this point.

Vine App available on Android Market

Twitter's popular 6-second video sharing app has made its debut on the Android Market. The unique app, which plays videos in a constant loop, has become very popular, with a number of celebrities, sports teams and companies using the service. While the Android version is essentially the same as the iOS version, allowing users to capture, upload and view videos, the Android version allows users to zoom, something that will likely hit iOS in a future update.

Nike SB Mid Blazer “Neckface”

One of Nike SB‘s most well known design silhouette has been the classic Nike SB Mid Blazer which I first starting wearing when I was 12 years old. Straightforward and clean in my eyes, the model has seen quite a range of collaborations over the years. This edition of the shoe reveals the names of team riders such as Donovan Piscopo, Theotis Beasley, and Shane O’neill – all of which are confirmed contributors to Nike’s forthcoming “Chronicles 2″ video. The dominant yellow on upper is emblazoned with Neckface’s iconic black hand-style font across the anterior panels, side profile and lower rear heels. With the finer details Nike matches the design with yellow laces, a yellow tongue and matching interior lining round things out adjacent to a pure white Swoosh and outsole. Video: Nomad Carlos “Aww Snap”

Kingston, Jamaica resident Nomad Carlos presents the Board-directed video for "Aww Snap", the Patents-produced new single from his free mixtape Me Against The Grain. Born in Miami and raised in Kingston from the age of 5, Carlos has dropped several albums and performed relentlessly in Jamaica, proudly flying the flag for hip-hop in a country dominated by dancehall and reggae. "Aww Snap" features fellow Kingston rapper Five Steez, who has been spearheading the Jamaica underground hip-hop scene alongside Carlos, and recently released an album entitled War For Peace. "Me and Steez been collabing for years now," explains Carlos. "I wanted to do some back and forth spitting with him for my mixtape, so he came through, heard the beat, and we just formulated it from there." Me Against The Grain features production from Natural High Muzik, Tronic, MPC Boyz, The Consultancy, Inztinkz, Sinima, DJ King Flow and Paperchase Beats.

Los Angeles-based rapper Brian Ashton presents the Muttjob Movies-directed video for "More, Money, Power", his Matt Mega-produced new single. "More" features vocalist Lil Ms of Los Angeles funk/hip-hop collective The Milky Way. Born to an African-American father and a Canadian Jewish mother, Brian heads his own label, Palmside Entertainment, dedicated to exposing the talent in Palms, the Los Angeles neighborhood he calls home. "The song's meaning relates to how the world operates", Brian explains. " The ones with money get to reap the benefit of its power, such as more clothes and more girls.
