Calle Ocho 2011 (Event Guide)

Guys, iron your guayabera. Ladies, bust out the neon tube top. It’s time for Calle Ocho. Read our guide before taking to the street. The usual guidelines apply to having fun at the event. Leave the dressy shirts and heels behind, sport flip-flops and sneakers and make sure to wear comfortable clothing and slather on the sunscreen. And this year, get ready to line dance, when Calle Ocho brings locals their first ever country music stage to 12th Avenue, thanks to Kiss 99.9 FM, presenting performances by Amber Leigh, David Ray and Lo Cash Cowboys.

The Latin street festival features 23 blocks with activities for all ages. KidzZone with four blocks of entertainment for kids, including clowns, fun foods, magicians, sports teams and merchandise for mom’s needs. Streets dancers and strolling musicians interact with the walking public in the Parranda Zone. Hundreds of kiosks of international foods line the way on both the north and south of Southwest Eighth Street in addition to sampling areas where companies provide free products to the public.
