Feature: Odd Couple
Over the weekend I met up with one part of an up-and-coming hip-hop production team Odd Couple, based out of Chicago. After showing me some of their potential projects in the works and a few of his favorite past collaborations, we ended spending 4 hours talking about New York hip-hop over a few brewskies. Really cool dude. Read more
NEW NIKE NFL UNIFORM PREVIEW!
With a new season will come a new look, as Nike have unveiled their eagerly anticipated 2012 NFL uniforms! Rather than painting each team with the same brush, Nike left it up to the 32 teams to choose their own adventure, resulting in the Seahawks summoning an all-new look, while Chicago and Kansas City enjoy subtle flips to their fits. The Raiders, Packers, Eagles, Falcons and Panthers elected to stick with the classic jersey construction, while the rest of the league will take to the turf in lightweight jerseys incorporating Flywire for a lockdown fit, mesh ventilation for cooling, and four-way stretch materials for mobility. Check the pics below, and get to Nike Inc for all the info.Neak - Big Dreamer ft. NidaNasheeda
This record focuses on the fear of failing when it comes to our goals in life, and fighting tooth and nail to survive life's ills.
If your father performed alongside Funk & Soul legends like James Brown & Sam Cooke, and your older sibling was deep into Hip-Hop production, chances are being a product of your environment meant only one thing… Following the path his family set before him, Chicago-based Hip-Hop artist Neak draws vivid verbal portraits which find inspiration in the spirit of 1980’s Hip-Hop & U.S. culture. The “War on Drugs,” failing Reaganomics, and increasing violence within poverty stricken areas only strengthened the resolve of the then fledgling Hip-Hop movement, and it’s this concept of perseverance and reclamation that guides Neak’s artistry.
Since 2010, Neak has released two volumes in his ’84 mixtape series (8000 total downloads), both of which are hailed as “underground classic[s] with an electric/soulful feeling, and rooted in the core of hip-hop." Currently Neak is fresh off a release of his newest project "Neak Rock," a Pete Rock tribute album presented by DJBooth.Net, Fake Shore Drive, Refined Hype, Prefix Mag & YNotMyDream; which has currently reached over 50,000 downloads and counting! Recently fresh from releasing his #illRaps Series (featuring artists such as Slot-A, Pugs Atomz, Sincerely Yours, Mike Schpitz, etc.) He is now currently working on his next project entitled, "Love Greater // The Prequel," with production from Slot-A, INTLMC, Rashid Hadee. This upcoming project will be presented/sponsored by DJBooth.Net, Earmilk, and Prefix Mag.
Naming Nas, Mos Def, Common, Lupe Fiasco, MF Doom, Elzhi, Jay-Z, etc. as his main lyrical influences, Neak preserves the aesthetics of real Hip-Hop; authenticity, originality, excellence all evoke a heartfelt emotion for listeners of his music. Neak is looking to tour in support of his "Love Greater // The Prequel" project; which is scheduled for release early 2012."Artist|| Neak [ twitter.com/#!/Neak_Undefined ] Song|| Big Dreamer Feat. Hailing from the sweet spot of the midwest, yes..Chicago, Omen has been active in rap circuits since 2006 with the release of his Spike Lee themed Do The Right Thing [mixtape] . Gaining notoriety for his 'fire-flow' on 'The Badness' (J.Cole's mixtape "The Warm Up"), Omen's lyricism, delivery and production evolved and he released his second project : Delayed [mixtape]. Now, Omen has taken his talent up a notch and brings us his newest mixtape. His third installment, the Afraid of Heights project features a handful of Omen's favorite indie/upcoming artists (Eric Roberson, Ari Lourdes , Shalonda, Kendrick Lamar, Voli, Elite, Peace) and RocNation/Dreamville affiliate J.Cole. The mixtape is a journey climbing through reality, imaginative storytelling, personal experience and sultry tracks that will send you through every emotion. From a quirky intro track to the bonus track , Afraid of Heights is celebratory of life: in sound, in delivery and through meaning.
